Johnny Morrison went the distance and he had 4 hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates
topped the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 2 to 1 at Sportsman's Park.

In the top of the 6th inning Pittsburgh scored 1 run. St. Louis made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Morrison(1-1) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Jesse Haines(0-1)
was charged with the loss. He pitched 8 and 1/3 innings giving up 9 hits and
3 walks.

Branch Rickey was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our
guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one.
That is what really ticks me off!'
